Vizcaya Museum and Gardens

First up is the Vizcaya Museum and Gardens! Located just five minutes south of Brickell, this historic landmark is a bride’s paradise for an unforgettable dream wedding. 

Formerly known as Villa Vizcaya, Vizcaya Museum and Garden was the home of businessman James Deering, of the Deering McCormick-International Harvester fortune. James Deering was born in South Paris, Main. He attended Northwestern University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology before joining the Deering Harvester Company in 1880.

James Deering was a retired millionaire bachelor in his early fifties when he took on the challenge of building an expansive estate on the Biscayne Bay in Miami, Florida. He had an illness for which doctors recommend sunshine and warm weather. His Vizcaya estate was where he hoped his health would recover. Still, shortly after construction was completed, James passed away from his illness in 1925. 

James’s hobbies included sailing and boating, landscaping, and plant conservation. His hobbies played an essential role in the design of Vizcaya.

This Miami wedding venue is for brides who love history and is looking for a unique venue with landscape and architecture influenced by Veneto and Tuscan Italian Renaissance. 

Walked through this property’s gates and be immediately transported to a quiet village in Italy or South of France. All the hustle and bustle of Miami will disappear – you will not find anything like the Vizcaya here in South Florida.

I love this venue because it is so unique, and it offers so many opportunities for beautiful photographs. It’s an excellent place for a grand or micro wedding. There is plenty of parking, and because it is right on Biscayne Bay, you will always get the cool breeze coming off the bay.

Vizcaya Museum and Garden can accommodate up to 100 guests seated in the Courtyard of the Main House and up to 300 guests seated on the East Terrace facing the Biscayne Bay.

Villa Woodbine

Villa Woodbine is a historically secluded private renaissance mansion located in Coconut Grove just five minutes south of Vizcaya Gardens and about 10 minutes south of Downtown Miami. This charming estate is one of the earliest twentieth-century Mediterranean Revival Style house remaining in the upscale neighborhood of Coconut Groove. 

Villa Woodbine was built as a winter home for Charles S. Boyd, founder of the Appleton Paper Company in Wisconsin in the 1930s, and was named after a grade of paper called woodbine enamel.

The property was designed by architect Walter de Garmo and is noted for its fine features and craftsmanship, especially the ornamentation in its arched openings and its wrought-iron grille work. Villa Woodbine boasts an open courtyard surrounded by lush greenery and anchored by enchanting oak trees. 

Villa Woodbine venue is a perfect combination of old-world charm and elegance. This magically stunning private villa is uniquely beautiful and provides the ideal backdrop for newlyweds couples’ portraits.

All weddings and special events at the award-winning Villa Woodbine mansion are exclusively hosted by Bill Hansen Catering & Event Production. 

The venue can accommodate up to 230 guests seated. All music must stop at 11:00 p.m. due to zoning laws – this is non-negotiable. For the most part, valet parking is included with the venue rental. Prices vary based on the type of event, the number of guests, and the event’s date.

Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden

When it comes to getting beautiful wedding photos that you will cherish for the rest of your life, choosing a location with a stunning backdrop is essential. The Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden is just such a venue. 

Located in Coral Gables, only twenty minutes from the magic city of Miami. This venue offers brides a wide variety of breathtaking picture-perfect botanical gardens (83 acres worth) with extensive collections of rare tropical plants, including palms, cycads, flowering trees, and vines.

Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden was established in 1936 by Robert H. Montgomery, an American accountant, and educator with a passion for plant collecting. Robert names the garden after his friend David Fairchild, a dedicated plant explorer. 

David Fairchild is credited with bringing over twenty thousand plants to the United States, including mangoes, dates, cherries, bamboos, and many more.

The entire garden was designed by landscape architect William Lyman Phillips, a member of the Frederick Law Olmsted partnership, and a leading landscape designer in South Florida during the 1930s. In 1938 Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden opens it 83 acres to the public for the first time. Today the garden is a learning center, museum, laboratory, and conservation research facility specializing in preserving biodiversity.

The Design District Miami Wedding Venue

The Design District in Miami is one of the least known Miami wedding venues. It is mainly known for luxury shopping, fine dining, and art. However, this venue has a lot more to offer than shopping and dining. First off, The Design District is not just a building. It is an entire neighborhood with posh architectural design just minutes away from downtown Miami and the world-famous nightlife in South Beach.

I love The Design District wedding spaces because they are modern and uniquely different from other wedding venues. They are for the trendy bride who doesn’t want something traditional. The Design District offers various outdoor and indoor spaces for a vibrant and upscale celebration of love and commitment. They have plenty of public parking for your guests, which is a super plus considering how scarce parking is in Miami city.   

Whether you are having a micro or a grand wedding, the Design District offers more than venue spaces. It offers an experience. Furthermore, it has spaces that can accommodate up to five hundred guests seated.

Kimpton Epic Miami Wedding Venue

When it comes to the modern luxury Miami wedding venue, you need to look no further than the Epic Hotel. The Kimpton Epic Miami Hotel is located a little bit south of downtown Miami at 270 Biscayne Blvd. Way. 

This chick venue overlooks the Miami River and the Biscayne Bay, making it a prime wedding spot in Miami for its view. Although this modern and sophisticated hotel is relatively new compared to those of the Miami Art Deco area, it is built on a ton of history. 

Long before the Epic Hotel was built, there was the Royal Palm Hotel of Miami. The Royal Palm Hotel was one of the first hotels built in Miami by railroad tycoon Henry Flagler. It was five stories tall with a six-floor saloon and featured Miami’s first electric lights, elevators, and swimming pool. 

According to Wikipedia and Miami’s History website, Royal Palm Hotel was built on a Tequesta (Native Indian) village. A colossal hill was removed to make way for the hotel porch. It is believed that between fifty to sixty skulls were discovered in the hill and was threw into barrels and sinkholes. The building crews also removed proof of a Spanish Mission and slave plantation that was on the site decades earlier. 

The bulk of the construction on the Royal Palm hotel was completed by Christmas of 1896. It was scheduled to officially open its doors to the public in January 1897. Royal Palm Hotel was described as modern colonial with an air of decorous lavishness. 

The opening of the Royal Palm Hotel in January 1897 marks the first tourist season in Miami. During those early days, it is said that Miami would come alive during the season and die at the end of the season after Easter.  

In 1926, a hurricane dealt a significant blow to Miami’s tourist season and severely damaged the Royal Palm Hotel. The hotel briefly opened again in 1928, but the beloved Miami’s icon was never the same. The final blow to the Royal Palm Hotel came with constructing the SE Second Avenue bridge (the draw bridge), which connects downtown Miami with Brickell Avenue. 

The construction of the bridge required the demolition of the west wing of the hotel. By 1930 the hotel has been vacant for several years and was infested with termites. Although the hotel was only 33 years old, it was condemned by the city of Miami. It was demolished and burned section by section on the grounds it was built on. 

Ok! So this is where you probably think that the Epic Hotel came into existence. But not so fast. In 1957, the Dupont Plaza Hotel occupied the land that was formerly the Royal Palm garden. The former hotel site was converted into surface parking and remain so until recent times. The Dupont Plaza Hotel was demolished in 2004 to make way for the Epic Hotel. 

Enough with the history already! I love this Miami wedding venue because it has so much to offer couples getting married in Miami. This luxurious wedding venue is truly epic! It provides a breathtaking backdrop of Miami and Brickell’s skyscrapers and a grand view of Miami’s river and Biscayne Bay.
