Are you wondering if you should hire a professional wedding photographer? It depends on what is important to you. Your wedding will be one of the most significant events in your life. Hopefully, you will only be getting married once. Here are 5 reasons you should hire a professional wedding photographer.
A wedding is a complex event with lots of moving parts, and there are no do-overs! Therefore, it would only make sense that you hire a professional wedding photographer. Experienced photographers are very good at creating beautiful photographs in low light environments such as churches and ballrooms. They are also great at organizing and photographing big groups, small groups, individuals, the details such as the rings, tuxedo’s wedding dresses, shoes, and other little details.
If capturing all the best moments at your wedding is essential, then hire a professional wedding photographer. I promised you will not regret it. When considering if you should hire a professional wedding photographer, remember one thing – everything else at your wedding is temporary. Long after your wedding day, when the memories are a blur, your photographs will be the only thing you have to reminisce on.
When you hire a professional wedding photographer, you hire a person who conforms to the technical and ethical standards of the wedding industry and the city and state government requirements. While this may not have anything to do with creating beautiful wedding photos, hiring a professional wedding photographer with a business license can give you peace of mind.
A professional photographer will also have general liability and equipment insurance. General liability insurance protects the photographer from financial liability and is required by many venues. Due to the nature of weddings, equipment insurance helps the photographer fulfill future commitments if the photographer’s equipment is damaged or lost before your wedding. Professional camera gear is expensive, and you can’t just walk into a consumer camera store and replace your professional equipment. This is where photography rental companies come in, but most rental companies require the photographer to have equipment insurance.
The wedding photographers’ contract is an important written agreement between you and your photographer that details the terms of the transaction. Generally, a contract states the work to be performed and deliverables, cost, due dates, and other relevant information.
The beauty of a contract is that you can request changes. Once the contract is signed by both you and the photographer, it becomes a legally binding document.
Professional wedding photographers rely on clients like you for their livelihood. Therefore, it is in their best interest to provide you with top quality service and products. They want you to be delighted and will go above and beyond to serve you. On the other hand, a hobbyist or an amateur photographer doesn’t have any reason to be accountable to you – your wedding is their weekend gig.
After your wedding is over, a professional wedding photographer will process your photos and deliver them to you. This step can take anywhere from 2 to 8 weeks. The images will be digitally enhanced for color correction, light retouching, and cropping to look beautiful. Your photographer will assist you in selecting the photos for your album, design your album and work closely with you to edit the design. Once your album design is completed, they will send it to production and make arrangements for delivery.
By the time you receive your album, it could be several months to a year or more since your wedding. At this point, you and your photographer may have become good friends. Your wedding photographer could be your maternity, newborn, and family photographer.
