Maija and Hedi chose to have their wedding in South Beach Miami because that was where they first met. However, even if they had never been to South Beach before, they really couldn’t go wrong having their wedding there. Miami Beach, and especially the South Beach area, is one of the most sought after places to tie the Knot. Yes, Miami Beach is an island with miles of powdery coral sands, swaying palm trees, and emerald green sea. You will be mistaken if you think that was all Miami Beach has to offer.
Miami Beach is a vibrant community with posh accommodations, exotic food, and tantalizing beverages. Its art deco district is famous amongst tourists and locals – check out the photos below of Maija at the Redbury Hotel and the ceremony photos at the SLS Hotel.
For starters, Maija and Hedi wanted me to capture their entire wedding day experience, and I was so excited and happy for them. The original plan was for Maija and her girls to get ready at the Redbury hotel and Hedi and his boys at the Shore Club Hotel. The ceremony was supposed to happen on the rooftop terrace of The Redbury South Beach Hotel. The reception was also going to be on the rooftop terrace of the Townhouse Hotel.
The cool thing is that all these hotels are within walking distance of each other, and what is even cooler is that they are all in the art deco district of Miami Beach. And yea, the Shore Club hotel bar was where Maija and Hedi first met.
Ok! One thing you have to always consider when you are planning your wedding in South Beach is rain. For Maija and Hedi, the Gods decided to bless them with some afternoon rain, making it impossible to have a rooftop ceremony at the Redbury. Thankfully, their wedding planner, had a backup plan and the ceremony was moved to the Clyde Room at the SLS hotel across the street.
After the ceremony, I took the bride and groom back to the Shore Club hotel and created some newlywed photos on the honeymoon suite’s balcony. The weather was still heavily overcast with sprinkles of rain. Again, I managed to get some beautiful shots with beaches and hotels as the backdrop – check them out below.
The rain continues well into the evening, so the reception had to be moved from the rooftop of the Townhouse hotel to the Ramen Baby Burger restaurant on the first floor. Let me tell you, this place is eclectic! I have to say only in South Beach!
Majia & Hedi had a fantastic evening enjoying the company of their families and friends. One thing I thought you may find interesting is that they didn’t have a traditional wedding cake. They instead opted for doughnuts, which was totally cool and an excellent way to break up with traditions.
I’m so grateful to Maija and Hedi for trusting me to capture their beautiful wedding in South Beach, Miami. To the team of wedding pros that help make it all possible, a big super thank you.
